Walk in Historical Footsteps – Pilgrim Trails

Jämt–Norge Trail
Oviksbygden is crossed by several classic pilgrimage routes, including the Jämt–Norge Trail. This historic path stretches through Jämtland on its way to Nidaros (Trondheim). Along the way, you’ll wander through living cultural landscapes, past churches, traditional farms, and wide-open scenery. The trail is suitable for both shorter day hikes and longer pilgrim journeys. Here you’ll find more information and maps.

Kårböle Trail
Another historic route in the region, the Kårböle Trail connects to the Jämt–Norge Trail in Billsåsen / Oviken. It has long served pilgrims as well as travelling merchants, and is one of Jämtland’s themed pilgrimage paths. The route is maintained in collaboration with local parishes and pilgrimage organizations.

St. Olav Trail

Near Oviken runs the famous St. Olav Trail, stretching from Selånger (near Sundsvall) all the way to Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim. In the Jämtland region, the route follows beautiful lakes such as Revsundssjön and Storsjön, offering stunning natural views. The trail is well marked with the St. Olav symbol, and along the way you’ll find signs sharing local stories, historical landmarks, and natural highlights.
